Power Draw

Power draw was measured in the range of gross weight 24-36kg on a original motor aircraft.

In this range, power draw is relatively linear with P = 154.7x - 1096.2, this formula gives P the power draw in watts given gross weight x in kg.

Emergency Landing Time Calculation

This calculation should be taken with a grain of salt:

  • Time before RTL activates: 5 seconds
  • Assumed horizontal distance to home point: 30m
  • Assumed horizontal speed: 20m/s (accel is neglected)
  • Vertical speed until RTL_DESCEND_ALT: 4m/s
  • Vertical speed after RTL_DESCEND_ALT: 0.7m/s
  • RTL_DESCEND_ALT: 10m
  • Note that the default settings have 45 seconds hover at RTL_DESCEND_ALT, this is not included
